Living as a Baron

The bedroom of the Barons shows how even in the intimacy, the lords of the past needed symbols of their power. The bed is protected by curtains, and it has a lot of cushions piled up, sign of distinction; the closet is full of etiquette and ceremonial dresses of the epoch.

The barons, having financed the construction of the church, had the privilege of having a corridor that connected their bedroom directly to the chapel.

In practically every outbuilding of the fortress the Crown is present, distinctive symbol of the barony. In the case of the portraits, those with the crown on top of the frame represented the first-borns, which in their respective times were the heirs of the title.

The tapestry embroidered with golden threads and the different documents we find in the display cases of the hall (two invaluable testaments, a document of the XII century signed by "a priest unworthy to serve God" - a formality of the epoch similar to a humility vow, - and the inventories of the lands that by law had to be done every thirty years) are elements of great historical significance.

The current aspect of the castle is the result of the renovations and reconstructions made during centuries by the Lords of Montsonís
