PRESIDING THE TOWN, THE CASTLE OF MONTSONÍS

It is an inhabited castle, this is the reason why the flag still waves on the Homage Tower and some of the room are of private use. In fact, it is the first private castle of Spain that was opened to the public.

Each of the stones of the castle indicates the pass of the time. In the Homage Tower, one can see the difference between the first stones and the ones that were added during the reconstruction, after the demolition in the Guerra dels Remences. After the uprising of the noblemen against the king Joan II in 1460, it was punished with humiliation: the homage towers symbolized the power of the owners of the castles, and their demolition implied the end of their greatness.
